Joy DeRolph Booker, a lifelong resident of DeLand, died June 24, 2017 at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City. Mrs. Booker was born in the old DeLand Memorial Hospital on April 8, 1929, to parents Loyd and Alma DeRolph. Longtime residents of DeLand will remember the Spot Diner run by the DeRolph family on North Boulevard. Joy was a 1947 graduate of DeLand High School and a 1951 graduate of Florida State University where she was an Education major and a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. Upon graduation from FSU, Joy taught school in Daytona Beach and Conway. She married Paul M. Booker, Jr. in 1952 and the couple were devoted to each other throughout their 65 year marriage. During her lifetime Joy was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, the DeLand Junior Women's Club, the DeLand Junior Service League, the Garden Club Hibiscus Circle, the Oakdale Cemetery Board, and P.E.O. International, DT Chapter. She enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, and cooking.
Mrs. Booker is survived by her sister, Gay DeRolph McNeeley of Atlanta and her children Pattie B. Kindsvater (Larry) of Falls Church, Virginia, Paul M. Booker III, of Orange City, Sarah Altier (Jeff) of DeLand, and John Booker of Orange City. She leaves behind five grandchildren: Heath Altier of Jacksonville, Brianne Altier Ard of Mobile, Alabama, Garrett Altier of Nacogdoches, Texas, Sydney Booker of New Smyrna Beach and McKenzie Booker of New Smyrna Beach.
