Neal Lane Carper has passed on to a new adventure. He was born in Grandview, WV on May 20, 1941 and died March 30, 2018 at Arden Courts Memory Care in Winter Springs, FL. His parents, Vincent and Opal Carper, moved to Florida when he was 12. They built and operated the Southland Motel in DeLeon Springs for many years. He served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years, was married and had two children, Tina and Mark. Later, he met his present wife of 48 years, Betsy. He worked at and retired from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife service at Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge over 30 years. He was a great woodsman, hunter and fisherman and loved to be outdoors. He and his wife also built and operated a fernery in DeLeon Springs. He is survived by his wife and a sister, Joan and her family. He will be missed by lots of people-family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 6th at 11am at Allen-Summerhill Memorial Chapel in DeLand, with a visitation from 10:30-11am prior to the service. His remains will be interred at Grandview Cemetery in WV at a later date.
