Nancy Scanlon Obituary

Nancy Carol Scanlon (nee Jensen), a longtime resident of Orange City, FL, passed away on March 11 at University of Florida Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL.

She was born on February 26, 1933, in Buffalo, NY, the daughter of Evald and Amilda Jensen. Mrs. Scanlon graduated from South Park High School in 1950, and began working as an operator for Bell Telephone. She married Michael J. Scanlon Sr. in 1954. They divorced in 1983.

After years of working as an operator for New York Telephone, Mrs. Scanlon took advantage of a company offer and was trained as an auto mechanic. She spent the final years of her working life maintaining vehicles for NY Tel, retiring in 1990.

After moving to Orange City, she revived her love of the violin, and was a member of the Orange City Community Orchestra until 2022. She also volunteered at Halifax Health Hospice Care Center in Orange City. She enjoyed playing Bingo at the Moose and watching the world go by from her front porch, while working on a crossword puzzle.

She is survived by her brother Edmund (Jackie) and sisters Bessie Barrie (late Harry) and Mary Wilson. Her sisters Anna Land and Arlene Grant (William) predeceased her.

Other survivors are her children, Michael Scanlon Jr. (Roberta), Nancy-Pat Scanlon, and Sharon Ehlers; grandchildren Kerry Dickson (Paul), Michael Ehlers Jr. (Lauren), David Ehlers, Michael Scanlon IV, and Thomas Scanlon (Emily); great-grandchildren Johnathan, Elizabeth and Sheila Ehlers; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would also like to thank the dear friends and neighbors for their kindness

and assistance during her illness, especially George and Diane Goshorn, Steve and Melony Lovell, and Sue Serra.

Arrangements are being made by Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home in Orange City. A memorial service will be held later this year in Buffalo, and she will be interred in Lakeside Cemetery in Hamburg, NY.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Halifax Health Hospice Care Center, 1625 Veterans Memorial Parkway, Orange City, FL 32763
