Astrid Kristina Johnston, 95
Longtime resident of Pierson, died Saturday, April 7, peacefully in her sleep, after a short illness. She is survived by daughter Linda, sons James (Karen) and William; grandchildren Joe Carlucci and Brandon Ross (Wendy) and was predeceased by her husband, Lester. She was a member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Pierson, the LCW, the Garden Club, the Lioness Club, the VFW Auxiliary, VASA and a good friend to many throughout the county. She was born in Minneapolis, MN, shortly after her parents immigrated from Sweden. Soon after that she moved to Chicago with her parents and grew up there, meeting her future husband, Lester, and having 3 children. In 1964 she and her family moved to Pierson, becoming fern growers and good friends of the entire community. She was always active in her many clubs and hobbies, knitting, tatting, sewing, and painting and was "the Star" of the kitchen who loved to cook, bake and entertain. She was proud of her family connections in Sweden and went there often to visit her grandparents, uncle, aunt and cousins. She lived a long and happy life and we ask everyone to have fond memories of her smile and laugh. She never knew a person who didn't like her. A memorial service will be held at Ebenezer Lutheran Church on Saturday, April 14 at 10am. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you contribute to Florida Hospital HospiceCare, the Salvation Army, St. Jude's Children Hospital or the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made at
