Geneice Johnson Mew, 96, peacefully went to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at DeLand Manor, DeLand, Florida. She was born on April 26, 1925 in Astor, Florida to McQueen and Ruth Priest Johnson. Her Dad operated the ferry crossing at the St. Johns River there until the bridge was completed and then became the first bridge tender. The family resided in the house attached to the bridge. The bridge house and the bridge canopy are now located at the entrance to the Barberville Pioneer Settlement. Geneice lived a long, full life. Always a hard worker, providing for her family was a top priority. She retired from Sherwood Medical Industries, now Cardinal Health, after 29 years of service. Geneice was preceded in death by her parents, her 3 brothers, Todd, Willard and Henry Johnson, her sister, Lucille J. Turner, her husband, Albert Mew, daughter Patricia Crow White, granddaughter Kristy Crow, and grandson Travis Spence. She is survived by three sons: Stan Crow (Shirley), Joe Strickland (Karen) & Dale Strickland (Jeannine), 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren & many, many great-great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held at Emporia Baptist Church at 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 29, 2021. Interment will be at the Methodist Cemetery in Pierson following the service.
