DeLand Native, Harry Frederick "Red" Purvis, 86, was born in DeLand, Florida to Mary Catherine Driggers Purvis and Coy Franklin Purvis on February 18, 1931. He passed away on January 23, 2018 at Ridgecrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was the youngest of four siblings which included brothers, James Earl Purvis, Herbert DePhere Purvis, and sister Kathleen Kerns Purvis. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He married JoAnn Crawford on June 2, 1951 in a ceremony performed by his father, Reverend Coy Franklin Purvis in the Emporia Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving wife JoAnn and their three children, Lynn Franklin Purvis, Cindy Lou Purvis, Michael Dean Purvis and Grandson Ryan Michael Purvis. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 26th from 6-8pm at Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home in DeLand. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 27th at 10am at Allen-Summerhill Memorial Chapel in DeLand, with Reverend Howard Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery in Emporia.
