Nan Courtney Obituary

Nan Seaman Courtney passed away November 30, 2017, at John Knox Village Majestic Oaks, in Orange City, Florida. She was born July 1, 1931, in Hagerstown, Maryland, to the late Eleanor Brown and Charles C. Seaman. She graduated from Hagerstown High School and received her B.S. Degree in Home Economics from James Madison University. Nan taught school in Maryland before she and her husband relocated to Florida, where she spent 29 years teaching at Mainland High School in Daytona Beach. What a gift she was to our community as she served as a member and President of the Woman's Club of DeLand, and P.E.O. Chapter AN. Nan was also a member of Presbyterian Women, the Rachel Circle, and served as a Deacon of First Presbyterian Church of DeLand. She was predeceased by her husband, Lester Courtney and her sister, Eleanor S. Lightner. She is survived by her niece, Susan Lightner Sagarin of Maryland, and nephew, John Lightner of California. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, December 6th, in the Sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church of DeLand. Memorial Donations may be made to the Facility Fund of First Presbyterian Church, 724 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand, FL 32720.
