Pedro Pablo Castillo-Lopez, 83, of DeLand passed away August 29, 2018 at his home. He was born in Leon, Nicaragua on January 15, 1935.
Bishop Castillo was a Captain in the Nicaraguan National Army and a retired minister with the Church of God (Cleveland, TN). He was a POW in the Nicaraguan Somoza-Sandinista revolution of the 1970s. While a prisoner of war, he preached and converted 3200 men to Christianity. He earned a Bachelors in Accounting and Administration and a Masters in Theology. Pedro moved to the United States in 1994. He enjoyed reading, teaching, mentoring others and playing the guitar.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mercedes; sons Pablo Castillo (Alba Nubia) of FL and Javier Castillo (Emelia) of Nicaragua; daughters Eloysa Morgan (Henry) of FL, Noemi Paulick of CA, Abigail Castillo of Costa Rica and Sara Cash (Chris) of FL. Also surviving is one brother Felix Castillo of Nicaragua; 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 8th at 12:00 PM at The Sanctuary in DeLand, with visitation from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM prior to the service. Memorial donations may be made to the Church of God Retired Ministers Fund. Online condolences may be made at
