1924-2019
Lucinda Rabel Moremen Parson, 94, of DeLand, FL, passed away on January 29, 2019. A DeLand native, she first studied music as a child at Stetson University's piano department. She was married to Harold Parson for 70 years. Rabel and Harold both graduated from Stetson University and were jointly honored by Stetson in 2001 with the prestigious Doyle E. Carlton Award. Rabel was DeLand's first woman mail carrier during WWII. She was an elementary school teacher for over a decade in Ft. Pierce, selected as
Teacher of the Year, and in later years was music teacher at Orange City Elementary where she also received Teacher of the Year honors and the Volusia Educators Association's Mary Karl Lifetime Distinguished Service Award. A gifted musician, Rabel served as a church choir director and pipe
organist throughout her life, and played piano for many community organizations. She gave an organ recital on both her 80th and 85th birthdays. She is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Pearl Moremen, brother Carter Moremen, husband Harold Kenneth Parson, and her oldest son, Harold Kenneth Parson, Jr. She is survived by sons Charles
"Chuck" F. (Evalyn) Parson of Denver, Colo., and Nels A. (Wendy) Parson of Florahome, FL, and daughter Linda P. (Michael) Davis of DeLand; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on February 9, at 2:00 PM, at the First Presbyterian Church of DeLand. Memorial gifts may be made to First Presbyterian Church music program, 724 N.
