Richard Thayer Obituary

Richard W. Thayer, 74, of Deland, passed away on May 11, 2020, after fighting a tough but short battle with cancer.
Born on October 9, 1945 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Lawrence W. and Elinor R. Thayer. Richard was also preceded in death by his sweetheart of 17 years, Martha O. Theobald (Marti) and his brother, Randolph V. Thayer. He was a graduate of Dalton High School, Class of 1964. Rich served in the United States Air Force from 1964-1968. He spent 2 years stationed in Germany. While stationed there he served as part of the Air Police and earned the rank of Sergeant. Rich is also a graduate from Lackawanna Community College. Prior to retirement Rich was self-employed. Rich and Marti's story was a love story as Rich described at Marti's memorial service in October 2019. Having met at a carnival in Dalton, PA, they loved their retreats at the lake in Montrose, PA and in
Deland, FL, which is how they came to live there. They collected lighthouses together and were avid travelers to the Florida Keys and enjoyed doing everything under the sun together. Rich and Marti were
also active members of the American Legion Post 6 of Deland. They served the post by volunteering their time for many of the post's activities, boards, etc. Rich is survived by his children, Susan M. Dunbar, Karen N. England and Matthew M. L. Thayer and his grandchildren, Jakob Dunbar, Christian & Chandler England and Doris & Sawyer Thayer.
Isaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help
you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
The family will be having a private memorial service at a later date.
A memorial donation can be made in his honor to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Idaho.
