Thomas (Tom) Edward Nordmann, a life-long resident of DeLand, passed away on Good Friday, April 2. He was born in DeLand on October 13, 1921, one of ten children of an early citrus growing family. After serving as a Major in the United States Marine Corps, he earned his accounting degree at the University of Florida and went on to work for the IRS, ITT Raynier, and most recently Ardmore Farms. But while accounting was his profession, farming was his passion. He worked with UF's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences in the 60's and early 70's to develop improved strains of fruit trees more tolerant of the hot Florida climate, and
maintained his family's grove operation until hard freezes in the mid-80's decimated the local citrus industry. In retirement he enjoyed reading, fishing, watching Gator sports and of course, growing things around his home. Tom was preceded in death by his nine brothers and sisters, his son, Edward Michael Nordmann, and his wife Arca (Ambrose) Nordmann. He is survived by his sons Joseph Thomas Nordmann and Thomas Parish Nordmann, his daughters-in-law Nelly (Edward), Sue (Joseph), and Annmarie (Thomas), as well as his six grandchildren: Ben (Edward), Chris, Cassidy, Carson (Joseph), Nathaniel, and Anna (Thomas). Tom Nordmann was ninety-nine.
