Wayman Franklin Barrs, 70, of Pierson, FL went home after a long struggle with cancer. He died peacefully on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 in his home surrounded by family and loved ones.
Wayman was born on October 17, 1947 in Day, FL to Alfonso and Adetha Bell Barrs. He was also predeceased by his step-father Albert Knouse. On August 25, 1972 he married his best friend and love of his life, Susan McCormick at Stetson Baptist Church in DeLand, FL. Wayman made a great life for his wife and family. He enjoyed many hobbies, including hunting, fishing, golfing, carpentry and sports. He was a star athlete and baseball coach. Most of all, he was a loving Father, Husband and Papa!
Survivors include his wife of 45 years Susan; his 2 daughters Katie Beatty (Skeeter) and Kerry Treichel (Zak); his son Wayman Barrs (Amber); six grandchildren Dawson, Dylan, Bryson, Trinden, Bentley and Noah; 1 sister Evia Loye Barrs Stateler; 2 brothers Alfonso Barrs (Susie) and Lavern Barrs (Susan); as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 3, 2018 from 4-6pm at Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home in DeLand, FL. The funeral service will be at his home church, First Baptist Church of Pierson on Monday, June 4, 2018 at 11:00 am. There will be a graveside burial service to follow at the Pierson United Methodist Cemetery.
