Billy L. Tucker, 87 of DeLand passed away May 2, 2022 at the Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler Care Center in Orange City. He was born in Gainesville, FL on September 13, 1934 and served in the United States Marine Corps. He was chosen by professional scouts in 1955 and 1956 to play for the American All-Stars Amateur Baseball team, traveling to South Africa. Billy attended University of Tennessee in 1956 and attended Stetson University in 1957. In 1989, he retired for the United States Postal Service, serving West Volusia County for 31 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in DeLand and the Elks Club. Billy played softball into his 70's and played twice at the Senior Olympics, playing short stop and third base. He also enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, golf and photography. Billy loved hard work and fixing things. He was predeceased by his sons William L. Tucker and Barry Tucker and daughter Mary Elizabeth Tucker. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara Tucker; daughter Patricia Tucker of Lutz, FL; brothers George Gilbert Tucker of Jacksonville and Jimmy W. Tucker of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren Christopher Garrett Tucker, Lauren Elizabeth Terrell and Austin Mitchell Tucker and great-grandchildren Isabella C. Tucker and William Gavin Tucker.
