Donald Anderson Obituary

Rev. Don E Anderson

“Since my youth, O God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare
your marvelous deeds. Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake
me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your might
to all who are to come.” Psalm 71:17-19
Donald Edward Anderson was born on January 6, 1930 in Rahway,
New Jersey the youngest of three children born to the late Margaret
Estelle (Craft) and William Henry Anderson. As a small child the family
moved to Harrisburg, PA. His spiritual journey began when he was in
his early childhood. A children’s evangelist, Rev. Harold Rhodes, was
holding meetings at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in
Harrisburg. It was at one of those meetings that he first committed his
life to the Lord. Among the many lessons his mother taught him were
two Bible admonitions that she repeated over and over. The first was
“Seek ye first the kingdom of God” (Matthew 6:33) The second was
“… be sure your sins will find you out.” (Numbers 32:23) As a young
teenager he was introduced to Summit Grove Camp. It was there that
he was challenged to commit himself to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. It
was there that on more than one occasion he responded to the call of
the Lord to surrender his life to God. While still in Junior High School
he met Peggy Aungst who some years later became his wife. Peggy
proved to be one of the guiding influences of his life and they enjoyed a
happy marriage for more than 65 years. He graduated from Nyack
College (known then as the Missionary Institute) in 1954 earning a
Bachelor of Theology degree. Don was privileged to have numerous
ministries over his 60 plus years of service in the C&MA --- Pastor (six
churches), Eastern District treasure, Superintendent of the Eastern
District of the C&MA, C&MA National Committees (Finance Committee,
Salaries Committee, Audit Committee, two terms on the national C&MA
Board of Managers). In 1983 he became the Executive Director of the
Alliance Home, now the Alliance Community for Retirement Living. He
was privileged to first serve as the Executive Director, later as the
Director or Marketing and Sales and still later as pastor of The Alliance
Chapel – a total of 31 years and consequently DeLand became his
home for more than 39 years. One of his favorite Scriptures which
impacted his life, “Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and
feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall
give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, trust
also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.” (Psalm 37:3-5)

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Peggy, oldest son, Don
Jr., youngest son, Stephen, two grandchildren, Ben and Christopher.
He is survived by his son, David and wife Teresa of Lumberton, NC
and a son William (Bill) and wife Nellie of Deland, FL and a foster
daughter, Francis Ruth of Deland, FL and grandchildren – Donnie,
Gwen, Beth, Ashley, Adrian, and Taylor, and six great-grandchildren –
Reece, Reagan, Greyson, Adeline, Elodie, and Liam.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY, GREAT THINGS HE HAS DONE!
