It is with great sadness that the family of James Monroe Haskins announces his death on February 27, 2026 in Seville Florida. Jimmy, as most people called him, was both a loyal brother and friend to many.
Jimmy was a lifetime resident of Volusia County, spending the last forty years on his property in Seville. He graduated from Taylor High School in 1970 as the President of the National Honor Society. Jimmy was a sports fanatic. While in high school, he lettered in baseball, basketball, football and track. Following high school, he served six years in the National Guard. Jimmy was known for his “green thumb” and was a fern grower by trade. He loved the outdoors, especially enjoying a day on the lake with Willie or crabbing with his cousin Randall. He was an avid fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with his favorite player being Baker Mayfield, as well as the Jacksonville Jaguars. Racing was another of his favorites and during racing season Jimmy could be found watching NASCAR; trucks, Xfinity and Cup races. He and Willie would take a yearly trip to Sebring for the Twenty-Four hours of Sebring.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his son James Matthew Haskins; his parents, William L. and Christine Peterson Haskins; life-partners Dee and later in life Joanne; brother-in law Brooks Alan Nelson and nephew Jason Brooks Nelson. He is survived by: his daughter, Manda Haskins; his son Rusty Smiley and daughter-in-law, April Smiley; siblings Susan Nelson, Faith McClintock and brother-in-law Jeff McClintock and Wayne Haskins; his grandchildren Kinsey Newbould and her spouse Angel Carrion, Alec Haskins, Zackary Williams; Dustin, Jacob and Tabitha Smiley; great-grandchildren: Dallas, Brantley, Wyatt and Maverick Smiley; nephews, Tony Trochlell and his wife Kathy, Jeffery McClintock and niece Kimberlee Haskins.
