Joyce Louise Abbott

Joyce Louise McMahon Abbott, 79, of DeLeon Springs, FL, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 30, 2023. She was born in DeLand to Grady and Jessie Mae McMahon on March 6, 1943. Joyce was raised on a dairy farm near Hontoon Island and graduated from DeLand High School in 1961. She married her husband, Joe, in 1965, and they moved to DeLeon Springs where they raised their three children. Joyce first worked in the DeLand area as a hairdresser and later spent many years working in the cafeteria at McInnis Elementary. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of DeLeon Springs and is lovingly remembered for her sweet smile and joyous laughter. She is predeceased by her husband, Joe, and survived by her three children, Dorissa Martin (Adison), Joseph Abbott II, and Jolie Kelly (Bruce); 6 grandchildren, Davis (Stacey), Dustin, Dolan, Dayna, Karen and Preston; her sweet great- granddaughter, Madeleine; sisters, Kathryn Sue and Debbie; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held Saturday, March 18, 2023, at First Baptist Church DeLeon Springs. Visitation will begin at 10:30 am, with the service following at 11:00. Joyce will be interned during a private service at Seville Cemetery. Allen Summerhill is in charge of the arrangements.
