Philip “Rocky” Robert Bucci III went to be with the Lord on April 19, 2026. He passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by family and dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Philip and Marion Bucci (nee Drasher), and his sisters, Lynn Woodside and Phyllis Berkheiser. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Diane Bucci (nee Coyle), his son Philip Vino, daughters Jennifer Ramsay (Scott), Jackie Babinski (Frank), his grandchildren Brittany Prevost, Alexandra Vino, and Jaiden Ramsay, his great grandchildren Riley, Ronan, Raiden Prevost as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, their families and extended family.
Rocky was born on July 14, 1943 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was on the swim team and track teams at Marple Newtown High School in Newtown Square PA, where he graduated in 1962. He enlisted in the US Coast Guard in September 1962 and after serving 4 years, spent time in Delaware County PA and Dania FL before reenlisting in the Coast Guard, where he served proudly until his retirement as a Master Chief Boatswains Mate in 1989. He was the recipient of the Coast Guard Medal for Heroism after rescuing people from the water off the jetties in Cape May NJ. He would treasure the memories and friendships made during his tenure for the rest of his life, especially his tour on the USCGC Eagle and on the USCGC Point Heron in Fire Island NY. After his Coast Guard career concluded, he continued to earn his living by way of the sea, first as Dock Master of the Capital Yacht Club in Washington DC, and then by obtaining his 1600-ton Captain’s license and working in the Marine Industry for many years. Rocky was a mentor to many and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Honor Flight San Diego, US Coast Guard Mutual Assistance or Paws for Patriots.
