Sara Etta Jenkins Spears was born on October 12, 1940, to William and Onez Jenkins. Throughout her eighty-one years on earth she has inspired, encouraged, and loved every person that crossed her path. Sara attended the University of Florida where she would obtain a degree in Education, graduating on April 20, 1963. During her last year at the University, she met the love of her life, Mr. William C. Spears following with a marriage on August 31, 1963. After graduating and marrying they would begin their careers serving the public. Sara would go into the workforce as a high school physical education teacher. Throughout the forty-four years of educating, she taught all grade levels and was a director at the First Baptist Day School located in Deland, FL. Her biggest mark made in the education field occurred at Middleton Burney Elementary School in Crescent City, FL. Sara was predeceased in death by parents William and Onez Jenkins, husband William C. Spears, sister Nancy Rountree, brothers Bill Jenkins Jr. and Thomas Jenkins, stepson Mart Spears. Sara is survived by daughters Cassie (Johnny Wayne) Abercrombie, Lynette Vermeren, grandson Dustin (Marandah) Spears-Blackwelder, granddaughter Morgane Spears-Blackwelder, great grand Children Maverick and Maison Blackwelder, brother Samuel (Lolly) Jenkins, nephew Dirk (Kimberley) Rountree, great niece Cole Beckwith Bishop, and three wonderful friends Debbie (Franklin) Harcus, Joyce DeLoach, and Phyllis Arnold. Sara was and always will be loved by many. Flowers and/or donations to the National Breast Cancer Foundation and The Educational Foundation of America are requested by family. Visitation will be held at Allen Summerhill Funeral home on Wednesday June 15, 2022, from 6-8pm. Church service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Deland, FL on Thursday June 16, 2022, at 10am. Graveside service will be held around 11am, the family will welcome everyone to the fellowship hall for the reception following. Offering of dishes are appreciated by family
